Irish Dance Dress Rental Program

Learning Irish Dance is an inspiring way to connect with Irish Culture. COCO sponsors an Irish Dance Costume program so that students who wish to learn Irish Dance to not have the barrier of costume purchases. The costumes are rented to students for a small fee which is used to maintain the costumes and fund new purchases.

Okanagan Irish Society Membership

COCO sponsors the Okanagan Irish Society membership for Blakey Okanagan Dancers who have achieved a Novice level. The OIS hold many events throughout the year which celebrate Irish culture and the Irish Dancers perform at many of these events to help enhance the celebrations.

Irish Dance Nationals Travel Bursary

Travel costs for Irish dancers to compete in Nationals can be a barrier for dancers to be able to attend. COCO provides travel bursaries to qualifying dancers to help cover the cost of their flight and hotel so that they can represent the Okanagan at this prestigious cultural competition. The amount of the bursary depends on the funds available and the number of qualifying dancers.

Irish Dance Worlds Travel Bursary

Travel costs for Irish dancers to compete in Worlds can be a barrier for dancers to be able to attend. COCO provides travel bursaries to qualifying dancers to help cover the cost of their flight and hotel so that they can represent the Okanagan at this prestigious cultural competition. The amount of the bursary depends on the funds available and the number of qualifying dancers.

Fundraising Coordination

COCO holds fundraisers to cover safety floor purchasing for Irish Dance students, costume program improvements, health seminars, travel bursaries, and other cultural events as they come up during the year. We recognize the efforts that go into fund raising and as such each family can designate 50% of their fund raised to the cultural activity of their choice (approved by the board). Most families put their funds towards their next year's membership fees.

Health Seminars

COCO has worked to host health seminars for athletes competing in Celtic dancing based on interest and availability of funds. Topics have included "Mental Muscle - Preparing for Competition", "Nutritional Guidance - Fueling Bodies for Performance" and "Dynamic Warm Ups and Cool Down Stretches - Injury Prevention"

Socials

COCO trys to host at least one social for members each year. It may be a BBQ or a simple potluck. The hope is to promote a sense of community through the membership.
